On March 12, 2015 a cement factory in Mongla, Bangladesh collapsed. At least four workers were killed and dozens more were injured. The Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety and our member companies express our condolences to the families of the workers. Although we have made tremendous progress to improve safety in the ready-made garment sector, significant safety challenges remain in factories across numerous sectors in Bangladesh. We urge the government of Bangladesh to immediately undertake a safety review and expedite the hiring of building and safety inspectors to ensure that all workers in every sector of the Bangladesh economy are protected, and prevent future tragedies.
