The Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety recently published detailed inspection reports on more than 27 ready-made garment factories. These factories are among the 508 to-date that have undergone thorough fire, electrical and structural assessments. Inspection reports can be found here.
In the case of every factory, dozens of deficiencies have been identified that the Alliance will now work with factories to address. Common issues include inadequate fire suppression equipment, lack of fire doors and poor electrical wiring. While the majority of buildings are structurally sound, there are some instances in which buildings are overloaded and factories have been urged to take immediate action to reduce the load and reinforce columns. In 5 cases, the Alliance has recommended immediate closure to the Bangladeshi government.
