Alliance Reply to Chairman of U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations

Senator Robert Menendez
Senate Committee on Foreign Relations
Washington, DC 20510-6225

April 10, 2014

Dear Mr. Chairman:

Thank you for your letter of March 21st regarding worker safety issues in Bangladesh. It was an honor to testify before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on February 11, 2014 as the independent Chair of the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety (the “Alliance”). I am grateful for the continuing interest of the Committee and for your leadership in ensuring that that the safety of garment workers remains a key focus area. Working together -- the brands, labor groups, factory owners, and governments -- we can make a significant difference for the people of Bangladesh. Below, I have answered the questions raised in your letter and provided additional background and details in several key areas. I would be pleased to provide additional materials, or meet with you in person, should that be helpful to you.
